Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) allows you to use servers, storage units, networks and other datacentre infrastructure through the Internet, but the running of your operations will still depend on your local IT. With limited global IT administration, Infrastructure as a Service implies a price scheme based on actual usage. You have full control of operating systems and applications, and you are able to adjust the usage of the infrastructure according to your needs, by scaling it via a self-service portal.
IaaS implies virtual machines, servers, storage and network, and therefore is similar to traditional hosting – you will use Infrastructure and a Service as an extension of your institution’s internal datacentres, but you will be responsible for the maintenance of the servers you use, just as you are for the servers on your own premises.
